At GRIPS Forum on April 21, 2025, Mr. Toshikuni Doi(Journalist, Film Director), gave a lecture titled “Report from Gaza”.

Abstract:
In Gaza, the war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for nearly a year and a half. What kind of place is Gaza, and what kind of people live there? What kind of life are the residents of Gaza forced to live under this intense bombardment? Meanwhile, how did Hamas, which had gained the overwhelming support of the people, become disconnected from the people over the course of its decade-long rule? How do the people view Hamas, which started this war? Moreover, how do the people of Israel view this war? Through videos and commentary, Toshikuni Doi will provide the answers to these questions.

Speakers’ Profile:
Toshikuni Doi was born in Saga Prefecture in 1953. Has been reporting on the situation in Palestine and Israel for 34 years since 1985. His film Breaking the Silence, which depicts the testimonies of former Israeli soldiers, won the Waseda Journalism Award in Memory of Ishibashi Tanzan. He has released works such as Attack on Gaza 2014 Summer in July 2015, Life in Gaza (a five-part series) in December 2015, From Palestine to Fukushima in 2018, and The West Bank (a three-part series) in 2019. From 2022, he released the sequel to Breaking the Silence, Confessions of Patriotism: Breaking the Silence Part 2, nationwide, and in October 2024, he released the film Report from Gaza in theaters.
